AMD officially unveiled the next-generation Ryzen 9000 Series desktop processors, also known as Granite Ridge. This new lineup is built on the Zen5 architecture, which utilizes the same 4nm process node as Zen4 but offers approximately 16% better IPC and overall performance, according to AMD.

Leading the 9000 Series is the Ryzen 9 9950X, featuring 16 cores, 32 threads, and a combined L2 and L3 cache of 80MB. It shares a boost clock of 5.7GHz and a peak TDP of 170W with the 7950X. Additionally, the lineup includes three other models: the 9900X, 9700X, and 9600X.

The new Ryzen 9000 Series desktop processors are set to be available to DIY customers and SI partners starting in July 2024.

The Socket AM5 motherboard family introduces two new chipsets: the AMD X870E and X870. These chipsets are designed to integrate seamlessly with the Ryzen 9000 Series processors, supporting the latest technologies such as PCIe 5.0, DDR5, USB4, and WiFi 7. The Socket AM5 platforms are built to last, with support projected through 2027 and beyond.

These new chipsets feature USB4 as a standard and are engineered to support faster DDR5 memory overclocking using AMD EXPO Technology. Both the X870 and X870E offer a total of 44 PCIe lanes and direct-to-processor PCIe 5.0 NVMe connectivity for superior transfer speeds. The X870E is distinguished by its 24 PCIe 5.0 lanes, with 16 dedicated to graphics. When PCIe 5.0 direct-to-processor storage and graphics are enabled simultaneously, the X870E provides twice the bandwidth of competing platforms.

In addition, AMD is continuing its strong support for the AM4 platform by introducing two new processors to the Ryzen 5000 Series: the Ryzen 9 5900XT and Ryzen 7 5800XT. These new Ryzen 5000 Series desktop processors will also be available to DIY customers and SI partners starting in July 2024.
